Starlight Academy - Street Dance
Street dance is an umbrella term, used to describe dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios in everyday spaces such as streets, parks, school playgrounds, raves, nightclubs and more historically, in any available open spaces. They are often improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with spectators and the other dancers. Some examples include B-boying that originated in New York.
The hip hop culture dance styles include breaking, popping and locking. These street dance styles are, in fact, so common, that commercialised versions have been professionally designed and choreographed for dance routines in pop, hip hop, electronic and R&B dance music videos.
Street Dance is a popular form of physical exercise and we have classes to suit all ages and abilities.
